What is BIAB?
BIAB (Builder in a Bottle) is a builder gel used to add structure and support to natural nails. Depending on the product and nail condition, it can be a good choice for clients who want a neat, natural-looking manicure with extra strength. BIAB is not a guarantee against breakage: correct preparation, application and aftercare all matter.
What is hard gel?
Hard gel is a stronger, file-off enhancement material that can be used for overlays and, with appropriate technique, extensions. It is particularly useful when a nail needs more structure or when creating added length. Unlike many soak-off builder gels, hard gel is typically removed by careful filing rather than soaking.
BIAB vs hard gel: the main differences
Both treatments can create beautiful, long-lasting results. BIAB is often chosen for a natural-nail overlay and a relatively lightweight feel. Hard gel can offer more structural options, especially for length or demanding nail shapes. Neither product is automatically healthier for every person: your natural nails, lifestyle, desired length and the technician’s application are more important than the name alone.
Which should you book?
If you want to grow your natural nails with a clean, polished finish, ask about a BIAB manicure. If you need extra structure or extensions, hard gel may be more appropriate. If you are unsure, tell your nail technician about your job, daily activities and any previous lifting or breakages so they can recommend the right service.
How to care for your enhancements
Use cuticle oil regularly, wear gloves for household cleaning, avoid using your nails as tools and return for maintenance at the interval your technician recommends. Never pick or peel enhancements off. If you notice discomfort, lifting or changes to your natural nails, contact your technician.
