THE OWNER STORY

From Losing My Memories to Building a London Nail Academy: How Beauty Training Helped Me Rebuild My Life

At 18 years old, my life changed forever.

A serious car accident in Italy left me with broken ribs, a broken shoulder, and a traumatic brain injury. While my physical injuries eventually healed, the effects of the brain injury would stay with me for years.

I lost almost all of my childhood memories.

Everything that had happened before the accident became a blank space. I could remember the people closest to me, but most of the experiences, moments, and memories that had shaped my early life were gone. I also developed speech difficulties and struggled to communicate in ways that had once come naturally.

At an age when most young people are planning their future, I was trying to understand who I was all over again.

During my recovery, there was one thing that remained untouched by the trauma: my passion for nails.

While so much of my past had disappeared, my love for nail artistry remained. Creating nail designs gave me something to focus on during one of the most difficult periods of my life. It became a form of therapy, helping me rebuild confidence, concentration, and purpose.

At 19, I started my own nail business in Italy.

What began as a passion quickly became my profession. More importantly, it became a source of independence. Through my work, I discovered that having a skill and the ability to earn my own income gave me confidence in a way nothing else could.

But life had another challenge waiting for me.

After getting married, I found myself in a violent and abusive relationship. Like many women experiencing abuse, I questioned my self-worth and felt trapped by circumstances that seemed impossible to escape.

Yet throughout that period, I continued working.

Every client I served and every treatment I performed reminded me that I was capable of supporting myself. My business gave me more than financial security; it gave me options.

At 24 years old, I made the difficult decision to leave my marriage and start over.

I moved from Italy to the United Kingdom with the determination to rebuild my life once again.

Starting from scratch in a new country was far from easy. I had already overcome a traumatic brain injury, memory loss, and speech difficulties. Now I was building a future in a completely different environment.

But I had learned something powerful: when you have a skill that nobody can take away from you, you always have a way forward.

Today, at 30 years old, I am the owner of AlyNails Salon and Academy in London.

Through my academy, I teach VTCT nail diplomas and professional nail courses, helping students gain practical skills that can lead to employment, self-employment, and financial independence.

While I teach nail techniques, the real lesson goes beyond beauty.

Many women underestimate the power of having their own income and professional skills. Financial independence creates opportunities. It gives people choices. It gives them the confidence to leave situations that no longer serve them and build lives on their own terms.

My journey has taught me that resilience is often built through the challenges we never expected to face.

A traumatic brain injury took away my memories.

An abusive relationship tested my strength.

But the skills I developed through my profession helped me rebuild my life not once, but twice.

Today, my mission is simple: to help others gain the confidence, independence, and opportunities that come from investing in themselves and learning a skill that can change their future.

For me, nails were never just a beauty service.

They were a lifeline.
